Lewisham Music proudly stands with the trans, non-binary, and intersex communities.

Our mission is rooted in creating accessible, inclusive, and inspiring musical opportunities for every child and young person in Lewisham. We recognise that music is a powerful force for self-expression, connection, and change, and we are committed to ensuring that all young people – regardless of gender identity – can access safe, supportive spaces to explore their creativity and thrive.

We are shocked by the ongoing efforts to undermine and erode the rights, safety, and dignity of trans people. These developments are not only unjust, they threaten the wellbeing and futures of young people in our community. As an organisation, we will not be silent in the face of discrimination.

Equity, diversity, and inclusion are fundamental to Lewisham Music’s values and practices. We actively work to break down barriers to participation, celebrate and embrace the diversity of our community, and ensure that everyone feels respected, represented, and able to contribute fully – whatever their gender identity, background, or circumstance. Our commitment to Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Access drives us to continuously review, improve, and expand our offer so that every young person can access high-quality musical opportunities in an environment free from prejudice and fear.

We know that creative communities are strongest when we uplift and protect our most marginalised members. Join us in standing up for trans rights and ensuring that music remains a space where everyone can feel safe and express themselves. We will continue to champion spaces that enable trans, non-binary, and intersex communities to live their lives free from discrimination, injustice, and persecution.

We fully support the Open Letter from the UK music industry in response to the Supreme Court ruling. We believe in a society that protects and celebrates all people, this open letter is an important reminder that our creative communities stand together.
