We realise that it’s sometimes difficult to find the right information, guidance and support as you navigate the next steps in music, and thanks to help from Young Sounds UK we are now actively changing this for young musicians in Lewisham.

As part of Young Sounds UK’s new Connect programme, we’re delighted to introduce musician/songwriter and all-round creative, Rachael Travers as Lewisham’s Music Connector.

Meet Rachael

Rachael Travers is Lewisham’s Music Connector. Rachael brings extensive local music knowledge as well as wide links throughout London and across the country, and will be here to connect young musicians with the right opportunities, support and information that’s available right here in Lewisham, and beyond.

 

A bit about me

Before joining Lewisham Music, I studied Music at ICMP and gained a diverse background in teaching, event coordination, and performing – from working as a music teacher in London primary schools to co-hosting writers’ nights with The 52 Songs Project.

As a musician and songwriter (Rae Travers), I’ve had the opportunity to release music with support from Help Musicians, collaborate with artists internationally, and perform across a range of live settings. I’m deeply passionate about creating opportunities for young people to engage with music and making music accessible and community-driven – both on and off stage.

What’s currently on my playlist

This is my favourite question. I usually have the same 4 or 5 artists on repeat. In no particular order Muna, Katie Pruitt, Zander Hawley, Jensen Mcrae, Boygenius. Anything under the bracket of americana, indie pop, slightly country and written by a sad singer songwriter.

Favourite places in Lewisham

I’m quite new to Lewisham, but I do love Little Nan’s bar in Deptford!
