Gift Aid is a simple way for charities to increase the value of money received from UK taxpayers. 

 

When you make a Gift Aid donation, the charity can claim back the tax you have already paid on that donation. This government scheme adds an extra 25p for every £1 you give in qualifying donations.

 

Which parts of my payment qualify for Gift Aid?

Membership of Lewisham Music and our ensemble activities form part of the charity’s educational objectives and are therefore eligible for Gift Aid. However, HMRC requires us to separate the ‘tuition’ element of our membership subscriptions, as tuition does not qualify for Gift Aid. As a result, we only claim Gift Aid on 80% of the ‘membership’ portion of our music-making activities. The remaining 20% covers the cost of providing the tuition element.

£57.05

A £57.05 membership subscription represents a qualifying donation of £45.64, meaning that £11.41 would be donated through Gift Aid.

£85.55

A £85.55 membership subscription represents a qualifying donation of £68.44, meaning that £17.11 would be donated through Gift Aid.

      

Please note that tuition fees for lessons, theory classes, and instrument hire charges do not qualify for Gift Aid.

      

 

What about other qualifying donations?

Any donations made outside of membership subscriptions are 100% eligible for Gift Aid, provided that the donor has completed a valid Gift Aid declaration.

  

How do I sign up for Gift Aid?

If you are eligible, please complete the Gift Aid Declaration Form using the link below. This form informs Lewisham Music that you are a UK taxpayer and authorise us to reclaim the tax on your donations and membership subscriptions. We will then record all qualifying payments made to Lewisham Music and reclaim Gift Aid from HMRC. All funds received will be used to support the charitable purposes for which Lewisham Music exists.

Please let us know if you stop paying tax so we can cancel your Gift Aid declaration.

Please complete a new form if you move home.
