5 Lewisham young musicians took part in the London Symphony Orchestra’s On Track concert at the Barbican Hall on Sunday 24 September 2017 under the baton of new LSO Music Director Sir Simon Rattle. With students from the LSO’s other partner borough across east and Southeast London, plus students from Guildhall and LSO players, 3 Lewisham Concert Schools Band (LSCB) players and two students from Sydenham played in an unforgettable programme comprising parts of Elgar’s Enigma Variations and a specially arranged version of Stravinsky’s Rite of Spring. The energy on the stage was electric and the passion, power and commitment Simon Rattle drew from the combined forces was astonishing. One of our LSCB players described it as an ‘amazing experience’. ‘To see and hear the incredible LSO musicians play and be conducted by Simon Rattle himself’ was something that he would always be proud to have been part of, and it’s given him ‘new aspirations and insights into the next level of playing’. Lewisham Music is very proud to be a LSO partner music hub, and we look forward to our continuing associations and collaborations in a wide range of areas including high quality performances, ensemble coaching, and special school projects.
